Learning Outcomes of Fraternity Membership: Early Insights (Spring & Fall 2024)

Recently, the Timothy J. Piazza Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research analyzed the results from their University Learning Outcomes Assessment (UniLOA) across the Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 semesters to determine the impact that Fraternity involvement has on its members. In the original assessment, participants were asked to answer questions regarding five of seven domains UniLOA considers: communication, critical thinking, diversity, citizenship, and leadership.

Overall, the Piazza Center found that Fraternity membership leads to positive outcomes by developing key skills, allowing growth through leadership opportunities, and by levelling the playing field across different socioeconomic backgrounds. These findings remained stable across the Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 semesters, suggesting that these positive outcomes are not outliers and can be directly attributed to Fraternity involvement.

The Piazza Center strives to become a national leader in creating new knowledge about policies, professional practices, and educational programs that are known to transform the fraternity and sorority experience.
